My quiet place…
My quiet place is where I retreat when I need to be reminded that God continues to be for me. “When I thought, ‘My foot slips,’ your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up” (Psalm 94:18).
My quiet place is where I listen for Your still, small voice amidst life’s unending noise. “Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge—the Lord—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath” (Psalm 94:8-11).
My quiet place is where I do not ignore the news of the nation or troubles in my little life. Quite the opposite! Without the bad, how would I mature in my love for Your salvation? “Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord, and whom you teach out of your law, to give him rest from the days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked” (Psalm 94:12-13).
My quiet place is where You touch my troubled heart and soul. “For the Lord will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers?” (Psalm 94:14-16). In my quiet place You revive hope by turning me from myself to You. You give me confidence You continue with us and Your righteousness will prevail.
My quiet place is stillness before You. It’s not a favorite chair, or church. It’s not the calm of a peaceful scene or soothing music. It’s me before You and Your Spirit within me, wherever I may be. “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul” (Psalm 94:19).
