Their faces told me I had gotten their attention. Teaching a Bible class, I said the most important thing is not being a good citizen, not being religious, not going to church, not following the church’s doctrine, and the like. It’s not that those things are unimportant; they are very important. The most important thing, I said, is Jesus Christ. Everything that is good should flow out of devoutly following Jesus.
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
“No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, He has made Him known.” (John 1:18)
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6)
“All the promises of God find their Yes in Him.” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
Really now, can you imagine a much more religious country than first century Israel? But who engineered Jesus’ death? Religious people who were offended by Jesus. Are you devoutly following Jesus?
