40 visitors are coming to campus today, coming to investigate careers in ministry. For whatever reason, I always wanted to be a pastor. As a kid I imagined what it would be like, as a student I studied for it, and now for 40 years I’ve done it in various positions in the church. May our guests get good counsel for this all-important life decision!
Young Samuel though the high priest Eli was calling. “I didn’t call you,” said Eli. That happened two more times. Eli finally said, “Go, lie down, and if he calls you, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.’” Indeed, it was God calling Samuel into a life of service. (1 Samuel 3) Many young men and women feel an inner call from God to serve in the church. That inner call needs to be tested, to go to others, as Samuel did, and discern if this truly is God’s call. May that happen with our visitors… and I ask that you encourage young people to consider ministry.
“Each age its solemn task may claim but once; make each one nobler, stronger than the last.”
