Gustav Borrenpohl had been a farmer, not an easy way of life. As I visited with him in the hospital and he reminisced about his life, his eyes teared up. A young pastor, I hadn’t seen that before but was destined to see it often as older men laid aside their hard exterior and thought back.
I did it myself last night. Facebook you know, if you don’t know, you’re missing something… Facebook put up one minute videos of posts and pictures for all its members. Last night Diane and I looked at our videos and those of family and friends, and we watched them over and over again. Maybe you did the same thing.
What a blessing these new technologies sometimes are! I remember my first years at college. Every Sunday at noon I’d walk down the hall of our dorm to the pay phone and call home, collect of course. I still treasure that weekly family time in my mind, just as the videos last night led me to thanksgiving for God’s gift of family. Remembering with a teary eye… Sometimes a man has to do what a man has to do.
