At about this same time every four years, Diane and I have a mild disagreement. She wants to watch the Winter Olympics. While I understand Diane’s interest in watching the games, (she was a phys ed teacher and both our girls competed in school sports), I don’t want to. I dread seeing some young woman fall and fail to realize her hopes. You see, in my mind those are my daughters out there, and the thought that all their hard work and discipline would end in disappointment breaks my heart.
“Love bears all things…endures all things.” (1 Corinthians 13:7) Imagine the kind of scale that balances two different objects. On one pan you put fear, which is the reason I don’t want to watch the falls of young people. On the other pan is God’s love for us and through us. Which is heavier? “Perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18) Your fears become lighter when God’s love goes down into your heart.
Love for kids… Later today Concordia Seminary will host a St. Baldrick’s event. Many of us will have our heads shaved to raise money to fight childhood cancers. If you’re able, your generosity will encourage and help many children and their parents. Go to…
