The title jumped out at me, “Making the ‘Sunday/Monday’ Connection.” Sunday is usually a more leisurely day than others. A great thing about Sunday, Saturday too, is that the office is closed. But as the weekend grinds down – do you know this feeling? – you get anxious, your chest knots up.
For Jesus it was the Sabbath/Sunday connection, Saturday being their day of rest. When Jesus’ “work week” started up again, He began it with solitude and prayer. “Rising very early in the morning (after Sabbath), while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place, and there He prayed.” (Mark 1:35) Go to God before you go to work. Be still before you’re assaulted by clamoring voices. Remember love, not being served but serving others. It’s not about you but Christ through you.
The article is about Carol and George Bauer, donors to their alma mater, and mine, Washington University in St. Louis. They met when both were active in college religious groups. Being a secular publication, the article didn’t go into the faith background of the “Sunday/Monday Connection,” but you and I have an idea what’s really going on!
