Yesterday meant back to work for many of us. Ever have this feeling, that after a long weekend or vacation you want to carry the relaxed mood into the workaday world? My experience? It doesn’t happen.
The weekend Wall Street Journal ran a piece about the positive effects of taking a nap every day. How many workers can tell their coworkers and bosses, “I’ll be back in 30 minutes. Got to take my nap.” Anyway, wake up and the challenges still face you.
A religious suggestion is regular daily devotion. I’m all for that, big time. Little prayers, little Bible thoughts, constant reminders of Jesus’ “Come unto Me,” really do help. But still, that doesn’t translate relaxed, holiday mood to daily life.
Face it, Dale. On this side of eternity we’ll never have the total peace that we want. Holidays and vacations will always be oases amidst the pressures of daily life. If that is so, isn’t the tension a blessed incentive to look forward to heavenly bliss? “Peace I leave with you,” Jesus says, and adds, “not as the world gives.” (John 14:27) His promise is most meaningful when we are amidst the pressures of today.
