The Meyer Minute for April 30, 2013
Here’s an invitation. Friday afternoon Concordia Seminary is hosting a St. Baldrick’s event to raise money to fight childhood cancers. Yours truly is going to have his head shaved, his summer do. To sign up as a sponsor, please go to…
But before you go… Healing the sick was one of the ways Jesus signaled the coming of God’s rule and reign. “He had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around Him to touch Him.” (Mark 3:10) The world today is still troubled, still sick and hurting, and so disciples caring for the sick still signals hope in the coming of God’s kingdom. Blessings have come to the struggle against cancer. “Today, 50% of all cancer patients are being cured of their disease and another 40% go into remission. Of the remaining 10%, where the cancer is advanced and treatment might not be effective…there is still hope for ‘quality life’ for the remaining weeks, months, or years of their lives.” (“Facing Cancer as a Family,” Abbey Press)
“They brought to Him all who were sick…and He healed many.” (Mark 1:32-33) Thank you if you do participate in our St. Baldrick’s event, but let’s all in thought, prayer, and deed bring the sick to Jesus.
