The days of the week have their, what shall I say, their personalities. Monday is the stern day, back to work, but who doesn’t like Friday? Whether yours was a hard week or routine, Friday comes with promise of freedom. The weekend has its chores but most of us will enjoy a bit slower pace of life. TGIF!
Really, Thank God it’s Friday! This is the day Jesus Christ died and that offers great freedom. Freedom from eternal punishment for our sins: “Christ died for our sins.” (1 Corinthians 15:3) Freedom from living in fear of death: “If we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.” (Romans 6:8) Freedom from having to assert ourselves: “He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted Him.” “Have this mind among yourselves.” (Philippians 2:8, 9, 5) Freedom to sacrifice for others: “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
The personality of Friday in Bible times was busy. Friday was the Day of Preparation when Jews would get necessary things done so that they could enjoy the rest of Saturday, of the Sabbath. As we welcome Friday, we too should be mindful of preparation. “There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works.” (Hebrews 4:9-10). Thank God it’s Friday!
