From one of those countless e-mail forwards: A small boy is sent to bed by his father. Five minutes later: "Da-ad..." "What?" "I'm thirsty. Can you bring a drink of water?" "No. You had your chance. Lights out."
Five minutes later: "Da-aaaad...." "WHAT?" "I'm THIRSTY. Can I have a drink of water??" "I told you NO! If you ask again, I'll have to spank you!!"
Five minutes later: "Daa-aaaad..." "What?" "When you come in to spank me, can you bring a drink of water?"
How helpful childlike (not childish!) faith is when we face adversity! It's the lemon and lemonade thing, taking stumbling blocks and turning them into stepping stones. That happens when we understand that reading the Bible is the Father's way of filling us with lively hope.
"The word of God is living and active" (Hebrews 4:12).
"When the cares of my heart are many, Your consolations cheer my soul" (Psalm 94:19).
"Count it all joy...when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing" (James 1:2-3). So today we call out, "Abba, Father!"
