This week begins -ologies on display! Yes, -ologies on display, like physiology, the study of how the parts of a living organism function. With physiology we'll be oohing and ahhing at demonstrations of kinesiology. That's the study of the mechanics of body movement and we'll be gawking, "How was he able to make that acrobatic move? Unbelievable!" Trying to orchestrate it all are those experts at psychology, the science that studies mental processes and behavior. People with years of experience will try to motivate others to do exactly what they want. What am I talking about? Bracketology! 65 teams in the brackets begin their pursuits of the NCAA national basketball championship.
The superbly conditioned athletes of March Madness remind us of another-ology, theology. Theology is talk about God and these athletes remind us to praise the Creator: "I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). That's the ultimate -ology, doxology, praise of God.
"O all ye pow'rs that He implanted, arise and silence keep no more; Put forth the strength that He hath granted, your noblest work is to adore. O soul and body, be ye meet with heartfelt praise your Lord to greet!"
Though for believers in Christ, there are no last minute upsets :-)
