Hi, Connor here. I'm grandson #2 on Opa's writing team. Last Saturday Daddy took me to Opa and Oma's house. I helped Opa take out the trash. Then I played Wii. When Mommy came to get me, she bragged on me. She told Opa that I had been elected president of my class. This is true! I'm in preschool. We had an election for president. I won, 7 votes to 6. My first campaign behind me! Opa smiled but his smile didn't last long.
Mommy told Opa that our teacher is going to have us vote again this week. Tomorrow our class is going to vote for the President of the United States. I don't understand what that means. I'm only 4-years-old. When Mommy said that, Opa's face turned serious. Opa is worried about tomorrow.
Mommy asked me if I had to say anything before I was elected president. "Yes." "What did you say, Connor?" "I said we'll share our toys." That was my campaign speech. Opa wondered about that. "Will you redistribute toys, taking from those who have many toys and giving to those who don't have toys? Or will you create an economy that generates power for all your classmates to buy toys?" Huh??? Opa, what are you talking about?
No answer. Whatever the old guy was talking about, he went into one of his books. “Lord, keep this nation under Your care. Bless the leaders of our land that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to the other nations of the earth. Grant that we may choose trustworthy leaders, contribute to wise decisions for the general welfare, and serve You faithfully in our generation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (Lutheran Service Book, Collect 225)
Opa, don't worry! I won, 7 to 6!
