We thought it must be an accident, a small plane off course. It wasn’t a small plane. Then came more news. A second plane. A second tower.
What happened couldn’t be absorbed in a day or maybe even in ten years. We’re still processing it, and the remembering is painful and puzzling.
We had let ourselves believe that people are basically good. The buildings hit, people jumping to their death, people like us fleeing for their lives. There is evil, and evil lives in people.
We asked, “God, where are You?” Many times in our lives we ask that question.
He was there. “God sits high but looks low.” Down in the rubble, down with sobbing souls, down where evil has struck, evil totally opposing what He wants for us. The Most High comes down to the cross so that we can bear our crosses, victims, crushed, you, me. Sometimes the only thing we have left is hope. The Good News is that one day even hope will be gone. Hope will turn into fulfillment and that day we will have eternal salvation, safe forever.
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, my salvation and my God.” (Psalm 42:11)
Thanks for posting this Dr. Meyer.
