Last night I spoke at a banquet for Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour, Indiana.
Preparing for the event, I went to Trinity’s website and clicked “faculty.” Hmmm… this religion teacher is named Matthew Jung. He’s got to be my relative, must be Larry and Char’s son. Just so. Proof again of what my father-in-law used to say, “They don’t learn it from strangers.” Matt grew up in a home that valued Christian education. Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall praise Thy works to another, and shall declare Thy mighty acts.”
Grade-schooler Micah Owens told her parents she wanted to go to Trinity. They agreed. Micah went on to Concordia University Wisconsin and today is a teacher in White Creek, Indiana. One Mother’s Day, Micah wrote a list of reasons she loved her mom. One reason was giving her a Christian education. “One generation shall praise Thy works to another.”
Grandson Christian has started kindergarten at Christ Community Lutheran School. After the first days, he was ready to go back but his mom told him he’d have to wait until Monday. Saturday morning, then Sunday morning, he asked, “Is it Monday?” “No, Christian, not yet.” If our generation does not teach Jesus Christ to the next generation, do you think they’ll learn it from strangers?
