More about time, while you and I still have some left.
“Rabbi Levy saw a man running in the street and asked him, ‘Why do you run?’ He replied, ‘I am running after my good fortune!’ Rabbi Levy tells him, ‘Silly man, your good fortune has been trying to chase you, but you are running too fast.’” (Wayne Muller, “Sabbath,” p. 48)
Remember this one, “Slow down, you move too fast, you’ve got to make the morning last?” In the Old Testament, God required that the seventh day be a day of rest, of time with family and time with Him. In the New Testament we read that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Sabbath: “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) St. Paul warns us not to get legalistic, that times off can be times of spiritual blessing. “Let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17)
With the long weekend coming up…rethink the rhythms of your life…and don’t run so fast that the Spirit of Jesus can’t bless you!
