A verse from the Christmas Eve liturgy: “When all was still, and it was midnight, Your almighty Word, O Lord, descended from the royal throne.”
How can stillness descend into your heart? Keep in mind, you are responsible for your salvation. That is clearly taught in the Bible, and that’s the deep reason why your heart and mine is often troubled. We’re responsible before God but we know that our lives are not what they should be. How vain to present ourselves to God relying on anything of our own! Only a Savior can deliver us now. Will you welcome Him into your heart?
“How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming; But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him, still the dear Christ enters in.”
Diane and I, our children and grandchildren wish you and yours a calm Christmas filled with reflection. “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength” (Isaiah 30:15). We’ll be back in the new year.
